The Three Most Covetable Holiday Gift Sets at Sephora (in my opinion)

Too Faced’s The Sweet Smell of Christmas Lipstick Collection

Too Faced’s The Sweet Smell of Christmas Lipstick Collection. $25.

I am a huge fan of Too Faced lipsticks, anything holiday scented, and can we talk about this packaging? It’s adorable as is the Gingerbread Spice Eyeshadow Palette. I’m loving the whole holiday lineup by Too Faced this year. The formula is the Melted Matte and the shades are totally wearable not only for the holidays but all year. Love it. I’ll definitely be gifting myself this set!

Of course I’d love the palette too but I can’t justify the price. I’ll probably buy it anyway! 🙄

Sephora Favorites Holiday Perfume Sampler

Sephora Favorites Holiday Perfume Sampler. $65

I’ve been getting so into perfume lately which is a passion I’ve had for a while but which faded in recent years. For some reason, it has been reignited, and I blame youtube and free samples from Ulta. I’m really into warm and sweet scents and vanilla, coffee, woodsy, and feminine notes. Occasionally I like natural fragrances like fruity coconut or apricot and also floral if it’s tasteful. It all depends on my mood.

I’m into Black Opium by YSL right now and looking for more wearable everyday fragrances. I know I already love Marc Jacob’s Daisy, so that fits the bill. I can’t wait to try Kat Von D’s Saint and Sinner and Nest’s Black Tulip. love that you get to try 15 perfumes and redeem the voucher you get in the set for a full size of your favorite. What a genius idea! I can’t wait to try them all. I’ll most definitely be buying this for myself and other perfume lovers.

Drunk Elephant Agent Ellie Day Kit

Considering all the rave reviews Drunk Elephant gets, I feel like there’s no reason not to try their products. I just watched a video by Wayne Goss where he describes the amazing turnaround his skin had after a troubling period of breakouts.

My skin is very sensitive and I’ve been meaning to try these products, some of which are already on their way to me. This is such an amazing value I’m definitely getting it anyhow, as Drunk Elephant products are pretty pricey on their own.

What holiday gift sets and products are you eyeing at Sephora and hope to buy yourself or receive this holiday season?

June Ipsy Glam Bag Review

Sorry for posting this bag a bit late but what can I say? I have three jobs this summer! 😅

I’m loving the June Ipsy Glam Bag theme, Flying Colors. I’m not only an eternal lover of bold color, but the theme is in line with Pride month. I’m all for it. Love is love. Live and let live. Plus, the bag is too cute.

As for the products…

My favorite was hands down the…

Moisturizing Eye Bomb by Belif

Moisturizing Eye Bomb by Belif.

I was beyond stoked to get this in my bag in June. I saw a few other people had received it and kept my fingers crossed I would too. As someone unwilling to shell out exorbitant amounts for skincare products I’m not sure will even work for me, I’m totally down to try any for a fraction of the cost. Let me tell you, this does what it claims to. Though I haven’t been using it long enough to say I see a totally different person, I can see the difference in my under eyes. They are refreshed and plumped every time I use this and it is so nice for the summer due to how cooling and refreshing it is. I need to try more K Beauty and purchase a full size of this asap.

Kaleido Cosmetics Skin Blush in Primadonna

Kaleido Cosmetics’ Skin Blush in Primadonna.

As a lover of peachy glowy blushes, I feel like this blush is a perfect fit for me. As an added bonus, it is “100% cruelty-free, vegan, talc-free, phthalate-free and para ben-free.” Yay! The formula is glowy, creamy, and buildable. I will definitely be using this a lot and already have. Also, the creator is pretty awesome and the company’s team took the time to comment and reply to me on ig, which is so cool!

In the words of Ipsy,

“We’re kinda obsessed with the founder of Kaleido Cosmetics and her relatable, fun-loving attitude. In her own words: “I have lots of fun with the product descriptions and shade naming, most of which are done over a glass of wine with a big bowl of nachos and guacamole with my fantastic girlfriends!”

So me!

Ferdinand Lipstick Mini Lipstick in Rose Gold

I love the color of this lipstick, and anything rose gold, but it’s not the best formula honestly. It’s not as opaque as I’d like and requires many layers to look close to how it does in the tube. On the plus side though, it’s super creamy which I’m all for. I’ve been layering it with liquid lipsticks to make them more comfortable on the lips. It’s perfect for sticking in your purse for an easy lip.

Bare Minerals Skinlongevity Vital Power Serum

Bareminerals’ Skinlongevity Vital Power Serum.

As someone past the age of 21, which I’m honestly not too sad about as 21 wasn’t my best moment, (bad friends and boyfriends are a toxic combo), I’m stoked to finally have a skincare routine. I would always look at the Lancome and Clinique counters with wonder as a kid and want to slather all of my mom’s skincare all over just for fun. Now I can do it for real and I have totally seen a difference in my skin. I’ve only been using this for two weeks along with everything else I’m using, but I love my skin’s renewed looking texture and how refreshed it looks. Ipsy’s description says it all:

“It packs a special blend of ginger extract which helps brighten, and antioxidant-packed California poppy which protects your skin from damage like fine lines and sun spots. Even though it’s concentrated, it’s really lightweight and sinks into your skin immediately—so right after applying you’ll feel fresh, hydrated, and super glowy” I would have to say that so far, that’s pretty accurate and my skin is super sensitive and prone to breaking out and I’ve been happy with it.

Kokie Cosmetics Be Bright Illuminating Concealer

Be Bright Illuminating Concealer by Kokie Cosmetics.

I’ve been wanting to try this, and like with so many products, Ipsy seems to read my mind. After hearing my girl Tati rave about this in so many videos, I was sure I’d love it as I usually agree with her. It’s not as full coverage or matte as I’d like as a girl with acne scars and who is oily, but surprisingly, I like this for a no makeup makeup day. It’s prefect for under the eyes and to highlight for natural glowy skin. This is great for the summer, when you don’t always want to wear a full heavy face of makeup. I’ve been wearing it to work and love it combined with my L’Oréal Infallible Pro Matte. The combination works well for me.

Overall, I am happy as I really needed to boost my skincare game even more and I received two great skincare products. I’m obsessed with the blush, can totally make the concealer work, and the lipstick is a great color but wish it was more pigmented. Still great for easy makeup days.

In terms of boxycharm vs. Ipsy if have to say this month, it’s a toss up! Loved both.

What did you get in your Ipsy bag? Any goodies? Any flops?

Love you all!

Fire Music Friday: Mapache

Sometimes while searching for song title on Spotify, a very remarkable thing happens: you find a great song with the same title as the one you were originally looking for. While searching for “Like a Stone” by Audioslave, an amazing, haunting, beautiful song, I found “Like a Stone” by a band I had never heard of before, Mapache. I’m so glad I did because they’ve quickly become my new favorite indie band.

Mapache’s “Like a Stone” manages to be heartfelt and upbeat at once, and pulled on my heartstrings. It reminds the listener of what it’s like to fall hard and fast for someone, like a stone.

Their sound is reminiscent of vintage folky rock tunes and evoke the sounds and images of sun soaked California. As aptly noted in an interview with the band on newcommute.net,

The music of Mapache is raw and refreshing with the clean resonator guitar accenting your harmonies”

The guitar work is indeed crisp and rich. The Mapache melodies are catchy and sweet, and go along perfectly with members’ Clay Finch and Sam Blasucci dreamy harmonies.

Born and raised in Glendale, the duo met through a mutual friend in high school and bonded at a skate park, over playing their guitars and singing together. Of course I have even more of a soft spot in my heart for Mapache, knowing they are California boys, being a valley girl. I was born and raised in LA as many of you know by now, and have been influenced by the same landscape and points of interest as Clay and and Sam.

I also of course love the fact that their band name means raccoon in Spanish. Although raccoons are cuter in cartoons and illustrations, I like them as long as they stay away, and Mapache is such a fun word, as many Spanish words are. It’s also a nod to the Mexican heritage that’s informed their sound, a piece of their sonic puzzle.

On their influences, Mapache mentions, “We both have a deep love for the southern California landscape, culturally and musically and geographically. We love the sounds of the San Francisco scene, the Dead, Jefferson Airplane, and the Bakersfield scene, and all of the southern California stuff- Byrds, Beachwood Sparks, CSNY. Growing up here there was also a ton of amazing Mexican music that has influenced us a lot. Sam lived in Mexico for a few years as well. ” in newcommute.net.

On their band camp page, their bio notes”… Their breathtaking harmonies and heartfelt yet heady sound, was honed by surfing the beaches and exploring the deserts and canyons of their native California.” It’s clear that experience, travel, and life itself is the best school for playing good music.

Love it and can’t get enough of Mapache. What are you listening to?
